On April 12, Charli XCX took the stage at Le Poisson Rouge in New York as part of a small promotional tour for her Number 1 Angel mixtape.

She was preceded by two opening acts, Brooke Candy and CupcakKe. Both artists’ sets were extremely eccentric and effectively captured the attention of everyone there. CupcakKe appeared to be a crowd favorite, with Charli herself even spotted peeking in from the backstage area to watch her perform.

XCX’s set began on a truly exciting note, with the intro being one of her most upbeat songs “Roll With Me.”

The rest of the setlist was as follows:

“Dreamer”

“Babygirl”

“ILY2”

“Emotional”

“No Angel”

“Vroom Vroom”

“3AM (Pull Up)”

“Blame It On You”

“White Roses”

“Bounce”

“Trophy”

“Drugs”

“Lipgloss”

“Girl’s Night Out”

Due to the intimacy of the venue and there being no barricade separating the fans from the stage, XCX was able to truly engage with her fans. The energy was amazing, and it felt like one big party.

Most songs followed the vibrant party theme while other, slower songs allowed a more personal connection between XCX and her fans. “White Roses” for example, which XCX introduced as her “favorite” off the mixtape, gave fans a break from all the dancing and a chance to really admire XCX’s stage presence. In fact, out of admiration, many fans brought actual white roses with them to the show and took this opportunity to give them to the singer, which she greatly appreciated.

XCX also had a very exciting surprise in store just for her New York fans. Since CupcakKe was there, the two were able to sing Charli’s song “Lipgloss”, which features the rapper. Charli announced that it would be the “one night only, one night ever” that they would be performing the song together. The performance was perhaps the most fun part of the show.

The best part of the show depends on who you ask, as fans have various opinions on their favorite part of the show.

Attendee/fan Michael shares his fave moment as being, “The drag queens that accompanied Brooke Candy’s set. Also, how low the bass was – I felt it in my stomach and chest.”

Another fan, Amanda Tarantino, says, “Charli’s show was very fun. Her openers were energetic and got the crowd really excited. I liked that Charli went with performing all her new songs instead of just doing her older hits. Her new songs are amazing and I loved hearing all the new tracks live.”

Make sure to stay updated on any of Charli XCX’s upcoming shows, it’s definitely worth it!
