The Brooklyn Nets are on the outside looking in when it comes to making the playoffs. They struggle to beat teams that are better than them and are average when it comes to teams that are within their record.

The Nets are currently in the eleventh seed. If the playoffs were to start today, the Nets would be done for the season. They are currently a half game back from the eighth seeded Boston Celtics. The Nets lost to the Celtics Monday night in a game that the Nets desperately needed to win. The Nets luckily had a great game Wednesday night and defeated the Charlotte Hornets. There are only twelve games left in the season for the Nets. In order for the Nets to make playoffs they need to try to win every game they play. The final twelve games do not look impossible to win.

Derek Halpin, a senior at New Milford High School and Nets fan, said, “We are half a game  behind. We need to win two straight games and hope the Celtics lose twice.”

The Nets play eight teams out of the twelve games that will be in the playoffs for the most part. There is one team that the Nets are playing that is on the bubble to make the playoffs. The other three teams that the Nets play are teams that are playing for a good draft pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Nets have to have big games by their superstar players.

Brook Lopez has been on a tear the last few games and has to continue his scoring in the paint. In Lopez’s last ten games he has been averaging over nineteen points per game and over nine rebounds per game.

Deron Williams needs to continue to be a floor general and make his shots count. Williams has been averaging eleven points per game and six assists per game in the last ten games.

Mason Plumlee, who has been in a slump, has to revert back to his play from the beginning of the year. Plumlee has only been averaging over five points a game and over four rebounds per game since his last ten games.

Bojan Bogdanovic has averaged twelve points per game in his last ten games. The Nets as a whole have continued to not turn the ball over and the bench has put good numbers up.

Chris Barrera, a junior at NMHS, said, “[The Nets] have to utilize their strengths and play thru Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson [in order to make the playoffs].”

Bryan Suarez, a senior at NMHS and huge NBA fan, added, “The Nets won’t make the playoffs because the Boston Celtics are going to get the 8th seed and the Charlotte Hornets are the only team capable to pass the Celtics.”

The Nets are one of the highest paid teams in the NBA thanks to Billy King and owner Mikhail Prokhorov. Will spending money finally payoff for the Nets and make them a playoff team?
