New Milford High School hired a new set of teachers this year and one in particular was English teacher, Mr. Donald Jaconia. Mr.Jaconia went to Hackensack High School and later Penn State University. Afterwards he got his master’s degree from Montclair State University.

Mr.Jaconia came to us from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood NJ, “I loved a lot of things about Dwight Morrow High School and Englewood, but there are a lot of good things here, too. I love the sense of community and the emphasis on teamwork here at NMHS.”

Even though Mr. Jaconia is a new teacher this year, he is not unfamiliar with the school itself. He used coach football and track at NMHS for about 6 years, now he teaches English to freshmen and sophomores.

“I previously coached football and track here from 2006-2011 and also worked in the building so I knew what a special place this was. When I got the opportunity to return as a teacher, I couldn’t pass it up.”

Some of his students were asked to share their opinions on Mr. Jaconia, and they had pretty interesting things to say.

“His methods are really simple and he helped me when I was a bit confused,” said current sophomore Sae Almeida.

Another sophomore, Kalli Linaris, added, “His teaching is pretty good, he helped me read more into things.”

Tania Arik said, “Mr. Jaconia’s teaching is good because he explains things in a good way.” She also added, “He helped me with definitions, and English for me this year got easier.”

Eric Heinemann also said, “A lot of people say he teaches like a substitute, but he actually can be strict when he needs to be.”

When asked about his inspiration to become a teacher, Mr.Jaconia responded with, “After I finished college I got into coaching and realized I had knack for working with young people, I decided to become an English teacher because I thought I could really impact students’ lives through what we do in the classroom.”

Other than having to adjust to new students, Mr.Jaconia needed to adjust to the other staff members. “Everyone here has been very welcoming and helpful, my colleagues in the English department have been particularly great in terms of helping me prepare for the year.”As for what Mr. Jaconia feels he can bring to his students this year?, “I plan to bring enthusiasm, great knowledge of the content, and an emphasis on critical thinking to all of my students here at NMHS.”

Great Article! I loved how you had students speak out about him, considering I have him in school, most of this is very accurate and true!
