At New Milford High School, we have many former students to be proud of. From Hannah Miller, the director of this year’s production of “The Drowsy Chaperone”, to Zusette De Leon, a recording artist, there are plenty of people who have walked our halls who now, due to their hard work, are closer to achieving their dreams.

Among such students stands Mohanna Aziz (Class of 2014), who is currently a freshman at Manhattan College. Aziz is majoring in communications with a concentration in broadcasting.

Aziz states, “I really want to become a news anchor and communications is the best fit for my career choice.”

With aspirations to become a news anchor, Aziz is “looking forward to interviewing different people and just getting to do what I love.”

Aziz also stated that one special thing about her is her personality. “Being a communications major, you definitely have to have a likeable personality. It requires that you talk in order to make connections. If you can connect with that person or boss when you go to an interview, you’re golden”.

As far as NMHS goes, Aziz believes that “being an NMHS student has helped me take on college. It has given me the tools to prepare for college. The teachers at NMHS helped me a lot, especially with helping me improve my writing skills and helping me speak freely in front of my peers and other people”.

Aziz’s two younger brothers, Mohammad Aziz (Class of 2017) and Musa Aziz (Class of 2019), are no strangers to how great their sister is.  Mohammad says that what he loves most about his sister is “that she cares so much about me and understands what I’m going through because she got used to high school and always wants me to improve and be a star in the future.”

What qualities does he believe will help her succeed in the future? “Her attitude to push forward despite what’s bringing her down. The obstacles that are unknown don’t stop her. She will push forward no matter what.”

What is the best piece of advice that she has imparted on her young brother? “She told me to make sure to boost my vocabulary to help me in my essays and speech during college.”
Like many high school graduates, Aziz is familiar with the pressures of college and the newness of independence. To read more about Aziz, check out my “Alumni Perspective” article.
