Music plays a big role in today’s society, whether people believe it or not. Many people listen to music as a safe haven so that they can breathe a sigh of relief. Music can determine people’s attitude in many ways, depending on the genre people can release what they’re feeling. Many of my peers believe music is a great stress reliever in many ways to help people going through a rough day or even stressing out.

Caitlyn Magala (‘17) “[M]usic can show the kind of person [people] are, it could influence people to do things, good and bad, it can make people happier, and helps people escape the real world. When I’m in a bad mood I like to listen to music to help me feel better and get away from what’s happening around me.”

Kyle Naimaster (‘17) “Music can influence people in ways beyond just what they hear in the music and beats. It can help lift people emotionally when they are down, can be a building block on what friendships and relationships are made on, or even just help bring people together. It’s especially important in my life because it’s my cure to everything, whether I’m hanging with my friends bumping together or just laying down using it as a cure for sadness, music is one thing that will always be there.”

Andrea Capasso (‘17) “Music is honestly everything. I don’t think one person in this world goes a day without listening to music or singing. Just when you’re in a bad mood music always makes it better. Putting on a nice throwback song and jammin’ out always makes things better.”

Julian Abreu (‘17) “People tend to seek asylum in music created by artists they feel that they somehow relate to.”
Dakota Rilleau (‘16) “I feel like when people listen to music they can feel the happiness, sadness, anger, etc. in the voice of the person. This makes it easier to relate to and comforting in a way. Since music is so easy to relate to, people tend to use it as an outlet for a number of different things. Things like entertainment, comfort, inspiration. Music is a varied and opinionated art form that will not stop changing until time itself stops. Just like there are many types of people there are many different types of music which makes it possible to leave an impact on every person who listens.”
