With two weeks left until graduation, my excitement over my future is overwhelming, but I am also going to miss a lot of things that made my time in high school memorable. I feel like I’ve spent these past four years running around from activity to activity, but I look forward to doing it all again next year.

My decision to run for student council treasurer my Sophomore Year shaped my high school career. I definitely put the most work towards class office than any other activity. As Sophomore Year began, I did not know it would be an activity I would stay involved in for the rest of my time in High School. Over my three years in class office, I have planned a car wash, homecoming, the MLK Day assembly, field day, the mannequin challenge, and countless fundraisers. Through student council, I have learned to be more organized and better at juggling different activities. I have also learned that you can always get involved through whatever means you can.

I also can’t forget my time in cross country. While I may not be the fastest kid in track, I had great exercise and made great friends. I think this past senior year in cross country was the best year yet. I became friends with Jill Maniago(’17), Vanessa Toledo(’18), and Katrina Martillo(’18), which has led to a ton of fun group outings and of course Jill ended up becoming my prom date.

This past year I also became involved in New Milford’s Ensemble Choir. To be honest, I do not really consider myself good at singing, but I loved Mrs. Schwartz and everyone in the choir. Ensemble really taught me a lot about time management, as many of the practices fell on the same day as other activities. I needed to be able to talk to my teachers and arrange a schedule that worked for both activities. During ensemble I also became closer to Jill and Mrs. Schwartz helped me out with my promposal.

I guess a month from now I can officially consider New Milford High School behind me, but I am not sure if I want to say that definitively. My experiences, friends, and teachers tie me here so I’ll come back and visit. As for what the future holds for me I don’t know, but I know my time here has shaped who I am today and set me on the right course.

Next year, I am going to attend Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus. I plan on pursuing a four year degree. I will be majoring in history and minoring in German, but I might change my major a few times. Who knows?

I guess the best advice I could leave for NMHS students is that you should always try things that are hard. In hard work you will always find warmth and reward. High school is about exploring, so forge your own map. Know when to follow others and when to speak your mind and you’ll be fine.
