As the NFL playoffs come to a close, we are getting a closer look at who may be playing in Super Bowl 52. Last week, it was confirmed that miracles do happen when the Vikings eliminated the Saints at US Bank Stadium on the strength of a last-second touchdown, clinching their position in the NFC Championship game.

As the other games went on, only one other game caught people’s eye: the Jacksonville Jaguars pulling out the upset against the Pittsburgh Steelers and beating them 45-42. This showed that maybe the Jags have the opportunity to pull off another upset against the New England Patriots, which as of now, is the best team in football.

As gameday inches closer, people are now looking at the Jags and hoping that they can do the impossible. The Jaguars, as of right now, have the second-best defense in the league behind the Vikings; their opponents, the Patriots, have the 29th ranked defense out of 32 teams. The reason the Patriots have such a bad defense this year is that they cannot stop the run and for the Jags, that’s a very key component to their offense: running the ball. Most people are optimistic that the Jaguars will pull this one out but there are still concerns.

The major concern, in my opinion, is the Patriots offense and having the clutch king “Tom Brady.” Even though the Patriots defense might not pass the eye test or rank high statistically, in my opinion, the Patriots always come back when they are down, regardless of the circumstances. The Pats have the number 1 offense in the league and the Jaguars have the 6th best. This range is a lot closer than the two teams’ defenses. The Jaguars have the ability to play very good defense against the Patriots and then play extremely good offense on the other side of the ball. This is something the Patriots aren’t used to because they haven’t played the hardest teams this season.

I think that the Jaguars have a very good opportunity to beat the Patriots.  It all depends on how consistent the teams play. Football is a very hard sport to predict because you never know which way the ball is going to bounce before the time expires.
