On Wednesday, January 31st, 19 students from New Milford High Schools Mandarin language program went on a school trip to Joyce Chinese Cuisine, as a continuation of research on authentic Chinese culture. The nearby restaurant, located on 478 Kinderkamack Rd, River Edge, NJ, offers a range of authentic Chinese food, in a traditional Chinese atmosphere. The Mandarin students of NMHS had been doing research on various decorations within Joyce restaurant to determine the cultural significance each decoration had within Chinese culture.

The trip supplemented their research on Chinese decoration and culture, with Chinese food which the class had also previously done research on. Some of the authentic food included Chinese classics like Ma Po Tofu, Stir-fried Pork with chili leaks, and Ox stomach.

After enjoying the delicious Chinese cuisine the students were asked to give reports on their culture items. The students split up into groups and showed the field trip supervisors around the dining area, explaining the meaning behind each decoration as they went. The students proved they had researched well to the Mandarin teachers Ms. Weng and Ms. Yu and they got to teach and discuss what they learned with Mrs. Biener and their peers as well.
