I had a chance to talk to Dan Ruiz before the big state game on Monday night against Palisades Park. Dan Ruiz is a 6’5 forward for the New Milford Knights basketball team and is being recruited by a few Division III schools. Currently, Dan is averaging 13.4 points a game, 6.8 rebounds a game, and 3 blocks per game.

I asked Daniel how he is feeling going up against the 10-12 Palisade Park Tigers and he stated,¨I believe that we will beat Palisades Park and make a far run in the state playoffs.¨

I then asked how the team has been preparing: he said,¨We, as a team, have been watching film and going over offensive and defensive schemes in practice to better prepare ourselves for the game.¨

Finally, I wanted to know if he has any pre-game rituals that he does before any game. Daniel replied saying,¨We have this special Knicks hat that everyone on the team touches before each game as a good luck charm.¨

It seems that the charm worked as the Knights downed Palisades Park in the first round of the NJSIAA tournament by a score of 71-66, with Dan notching seven points, seven rebounds, and blocking four shots.
