March Madness is here! “March Madness” is the nickname given to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament that begins with 68 college teams vying for the ultimate prize: the national championship.

Everybody who is a fan tries to create the perfect bracket–but it is not easy. In 2014, entrepreneur Warren Buffet announced that if anyone scored “perfection,” they would receive $1 billion (nobody won the ultimate prize). Presently, his bracket challenge is just for employees of his firm, Berkshire Hathaway. The stakes are a bit different too: if you accurately predict the entire Sweet 16 field, you will receive $1 million every year for life.

According to Forbes, you have a 1 in 9,223,372,036,854,777,808  or 9.2 quintillion chance of getting the “perfect” bracket. Obviously, it is not easy. The longest “perfect” bracket ever recorded was during the 2017 tournament, when an individual predicted an astonishing 39 games correctly.

Even presidents get involved: President Obama would famously televise the unveiling of his bracket. When people see something that even the President of the United States is involved in, it makes more people want to do it and get involved as well. Some people even compete against their friends to see who has a better bracket on websites like ESPN or CBS or Yahoo. You can create leagues with your friends and you can see who creates the more accurate bracket. This is a way that they also allow people to enjoy the March Madness better because everyone enjoys a little competition from time to time. People even tend to go to bars and watch games to place bets. If you want to have a friendly competition, you should jump into the “March Madness.”

In this year’s bracket, the number one seeds include Virginia, Villanova, Xavier, and Kansas. Villanova won the national championship two years ago and it seems like they are going to make it far this year and might even win. We have had multiple champions over the years and according to StatistaUCLA has the most championships with 11, followed by Kentucky with 8, North Carolina with 6, and Duke/Indiana with 5 national championships. It’s easy to pick the “chalk” (higher seeds winning out against lower seeds) but you must always look out for the upsets!
