What started as just a rumor is now a full-blown feud between female rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

According to Refinery29, rumors began to arise when Motorsport was released. Motorsport is a song by a group called Migos. The song features both Cardi B and Nicki Minaj in two guest verses. After the song was released, Cardi B noticed the verse Nicki had originally done wasn’t the same on the track. This implies that Nicki was given the time to recalibrate her verse while Cardi wasn’t.

During an interview with Apple Beats 1, Cardi addressed the rumors, stating, “I just feel like it’s really Internet made up. I really feel like fans and people, they really want to see that happen because it’s really entertaining. To see people beefing is really entertaining.” During Minaj’s own interview with Beats 1, she says Cardi’s comment upset her, stating, “I remember when I first came in the game… I would only be singing praises and saying thank you… The first interview she did, it just hurt me because she looked so aggravated and angry. She just kept saying she didn’t hear it…I was like, what?” This was followed by a tweet that was throwing shade at Cardi and assuring the change of her verse was already intended.

Nicki implies that she isn’t one to blame for her verse change because she was told by Quavo to remove her singing part. Additionally, Cardi had requested for Atlantic to remove her name from Nicki’s verse. According to Refinery29, Nicki made an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s, The Late Show. She rebuked this, stating, “Give me a [expletive] break, I didn’t know Cardi and I had an issue, but I guess we do since you and other people are saying it. You’ve got to have thick skin. People say [expletive] about me all the time. You can’t expect to be liked and loved all the time. Give me a break.” Nicki is tired of people constantly throwing the situation in her face.

After this statement, on September 7, 2018, a physical fight broke out between the two at a New York Fashion Week party. Cardi had been yelling in Nicki’s direction as bodyguards restricted her from doing anything else. Its reported that Cardi took off her shoe and flung it towards Nicki in hopes of hitting her but she ended up missing. Cardi left a comment on Instagram emphasizing that the motive was anger towards Minaj, purely for liking questionable tweets about her and Offset’s baby, Kulture. On Nicki’s show on iTunes called Queen Radio, she went off by saying, “The other night, I was a part of something so mortifying and humiliating to go through, by looking at this disgusting commotion, I was mortified. I could not believe how humiliating it all felt because of how we made ourselves look.” Nicki then played a clip of Cardi B saying that kids are not off limits, calling out her blatant hypocrisy. In October of 2018, Cardi B’s sister, Hennessy, claims via Instagram that Nicki leaked Cardi’s phone number. Hennessy believes that Nicki uses her influence to manipulate her fans and spread negativity and hate. Nicki addresses this rumor on her podcast exclaiming,  “Leaking numbers? What type of bird [expletive] are you talking about?”

As the feud continues, Nicki has tweeted that she wants to put negativity to an end and to focus more on positivity from now on. However, only time will tell.
